You’re my hero. I’ve always tried to stay friends with my exes. Just because things didn’t work out between us that way doesn’t mean we should lose the friendship we shared. A lot of people think that’s weird, but I’d support them no matter what.

I think a lot of people think it has to be that way, where you hate the other person, talk ill of them, just seethe that their very existence for a bit and then move on, but I’m friends with 2 of my last 3 ex girlfriends. Sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s ok, like you said there’s no need to lose a friendship over it.

Once upon a time, I was engaged to my best friend. We were together for 7 years, engaged for 4 of them, known each other for over 20 years now. Because of different ideas for the future (ie: where we want to live, kids, general future plans) we split up. We’re still the best of friends, we work with each other, we ride our bikes together, we see each other almost daily. It’s not weird because most people in our situation don’t do the same things, but I mean, who lets a change in relationship status affect a lifelong friendship?

She’s been dating a woman for the past 2 years, someone we’ve both known for about 8 years now. She’s an amazing woman, I was over the moon when she told me about them. I didn’t think I could be any happier. Some friends, teammates, even family have asked me how I felt about that and the answer has always been the same - as long as she is happy I am happy. Love really is that simple. You don’t know when or how you’ll find love and when you do you grab it, hold onto it, and nurture it. I realize why people asked me how I felt about it, but that’s because people really didn’t understand how happy I was, I really thought it was impossible to be any happier.

I was wrong.

This past weekend, her girlfriend proposed to her and they’ll be getting married next summer. There is not a person on this world who is happier than I am. Is it weird that next summer I’ll be the best man at a wedding for my bestfriend when she marries a woman?

Fuck no, I think it’s weird that people think it’s weird.

Probably one of my favorite pictures of all time, Saturn V rocket getting arranged on the launch pad, nine of these took us to the moon, in the 1960’s and 70’s with primitive computers and most math skills being done purely from the operator’s own heads, this one pictured here was actually for the launch of Apollo 13, the recovery of which should definitely go down as a miracle of human spirit and history
